THE ADVOCACY PROJECT MODEL
Advocacy Projects are the foundation of 3LJ. The purpose of the projects is to unite our members around common advocacy goals which objectively better our democratic institutions and strengthen democratic norms. Advocates, of which there are five seats on the board, serve as Advocacy Project Leads. These Advocates campaign on the merits of their project, and after getting elected, seek to attract members of 3LJ to join their teams. The Advocacy Project system makes elections to the 3LJ board more equitable. Instead of campaigning on individual experience or skill, prospective advocate’s must garner the support of members by provoking interest in their project. At the same time, this system vests the power to choose the advocacy projects of the board each term to the organization’s membership. Most importantly, Advocacy Projects serve as an effective method for recording the work of the organization. By consistently advocating for the betterment of our Democracy, and reporting on how that advocacy achieves strategic objectives, 3LJ can easily point to its impact. |
